Cynthia Binder
Before her stroke, Cynthia Binder worked in medical resources in Bismarck, guiding individuals through their health plans with care and expertise. Outside of work, she loved gardening, taking walks, and enjoying the outdoors. At home, her four beloved cats were her constant companions and the heart of her daily routine.
That all changed the day Cynthia suddenly collapsed at work. She was rushed to the hospital, where doctors confirmed she had suffered a stroke. After her condition stabilized, Cynthia and her family chose Vibra Hospital of the Central Dakotas for the next step in her recovery, believing it offered her the best chance at regaining meaningful independence.
When Cynthia arrived at Vibra Hospital, she relied on a feeding tube and required extensive support for mobility, daily activities, and communication. Her left side had no functional movement, and she required assistance with even simple tasks.
She began comprehensive rehabilitation right away, supported by an interdisciplinary team of doctors, nurses, and case managers. With time and perseverance, she made significant gains. She transitioned from tube feedings to eating and drinking regular foods again. She relearned how to communicate effectively. And despite having no function in her left side, she mastered specialized dressing techniques, learned how to move from lying down to sitting at the edge of the bed, and practiced transferring safely from her bed to a chair with a walker and assistance.
One milestone Cynthia was especially proud of was beginning community mobility training using a wheelchair, a new and empowering way for her to move through the world with confidence.
As her strength and skills grew, Cynthia transitioned to an inpatient rehabilitation facility to continue building independence. Reflecting on her time at Vibra Hospital, she shared that the staff’s teamwork and encouragement made an enormous difference in her recovery. “Being able to be me again,” she said, is how she defines success, and each day brings her closer to the life she loves.
Cynthia, your resilience, motivation, and courage have inspired all of us. It has been an honor to be part of your journey, and we cannot wait to see your continued progress as you move forward.
