Krysta Magnuson
Krysta is a creative, family-oriented mother whose world revolves around the simple joys of crafting and spending time with her young son. Before her accident, their days were filled with park trips, laughter, and endless Spiderman-themed games. Life was busy, full, and centered on the people Krysta loves most.
Everything changed when Krysta was involved in a serious car accident. She was ejected from the vehicle and sustained multiple traumatic injuries, including a broken shoulder and hip, neck trauma, and a traumatic brain injury. She required lifesaving care and mechanical ventilation to breathe. The days that followed were filled with uncertainty, but also with hope.
When Krysta arrived at Vibra Hospital of the Central Dakotas, she had significant medical needs and required specialized critical care along with a comprehensive rehabilitation program. Her plan included occupational, physical, speech, and respiratory therapy, supported by an expert team of nurses, case managers, and physicians. Early treatment prioritized stabilizing her breathing, addressing her traumatic injuries, and gradually rebuilding her strength.
Krysta’s determination showed in everything she did. She learned to breathe on her own again and was eventually able to eat regular meals. As her strength improved, she began walking up to 40 feet with her therapy team and gradually regained independence in her daily activities. One of her proudest achievements was regaining her ability to communicate verbally and reconnecting with the people she loves.
As she prepared to continue her recovery at an inpatient rehabilitation facility, Krysta reflected on those who made the biggest difference along the way. She shared that many staff members played an important role in her progress, especially the nurses and therapists who supported her through each milestone. Her journey also brought her closer to her family—especially her sisters—strengthening bonds that mean the world to her.
Krysta was motivated by the thought of holding her son and nephew again, returning to her crafting hobbies, and reconnecting with the people who inspire her most. She’s also excited to enjoy her favorite meal again: steak, potatoes, and apple pie.
Krysta defines success as “getting done what you need to get done”—and her progress reflects that determination every step of the way.
Krysta, your courage, resilience, and unwavering spirit inspire us all. It has been our honor to be part of your recovery journey, and we wish you continued healing and joyful moments with your family ahead.
