Willie Kuntz

Before his accident, Willie Kuntz was enjoying retirement. A former horse trainer, he spent his days taking country drives, riding horses, and helping friends and family with their horses. But one day in March changed everything.

Willie was in a serious car accident that left him with multiple fractures in his neck, requiring spinal fusions. His injuries caused several complications, including difficulty swallowing. To receive nutrition safely, Willie needed a feeding tube and had to relearn everyday tasks that once came easily.

Knowing the long road of recovery ahead of him, Willie chose Vibra Hospital of the Central Dakotas, a critical care hospital that provides extended recovery and rehabilitation for patients with complex medical needs.

With the support of Vibra Hospital’s interdisciplinary care team and his own determination, Willie made remarkable progress. Through physical, occupational, and speech therapy, he worked to rebuild strength, improve his balance, and safely resume eating. Over time, Willie was able to discontinue his tube feedings and return to a regular diet, eating independently once again.

As his recovery continued, Willie’s strength and endurance improved. He began performing pivot transfers and walking short distances with assistance—eventually reaching a total of 100 feet!

“The staff here at Vibra motivated me with their positivity and caring nature,” Willie shared. “Everyone has been great.”

Willie shared that his success was earned “one step at a time.” He looks forward to continuing his rehabilitation journey at a skilled nursing facility and, in time, returning home, getting back to riding, and simply enjoying life.

Willie, your strength and determination are truly inspiring. It has been an honor to be part of your journey, and we wish you continued success as you move forward!
